Est. 2009 · Lisbon & Copenhagen Interior architecture / FF&E / lighting

We design rooms that remember you. that hold the light. that age like oak. that sound like home.

A sixteen-person atelier working between Portugal and Denmark. We take on twelve projects a year — private houses, restaurants, studios — and we stay from the first sketch to the last cushion. No templates, no showroom paste-ins.

01 — The studio

A room is a sequence of decisions you live inside.

Inês Salgado, founder of Studio Oblique

Inês Salgado · Founder & Creative Director

We started Oblique in a converted canning factory in Alcântara with one rule: never design a room you wouldn't want to sit in at 7am in February. Everything since has followed from that — the way light lands on a plaster wall, the sound a well-hung door makes, the grain direction of an oak shelf you'll touch ten thousand times.

Drawn, not decorated

Every project begins in plan and section. We resolve the architecture before we choose a single cushion — that's why our rooms still feel right ten years on.

Made near you

Joinery from two family workshops in the Alentejo. Stone cut 40km from site. We keep the supply chain short enough to visit it on a Tuesday.

One team, start to keys

The designer you meet on the first call is the designer standing on site in month nine. No handover to a junior, no diluted intent.

Honest budgets

You get a live cost sheet from week one, updated every Friday. Our average variance on the last 40 projects: 3.1%.

02 — What we do

Five ways we get involved.

Take the whole house or just the lighting plan. Hover a line to see it; tap to open the detail.

Not sure which package fits? Send us a floor plan and we'll tell you honestly — sometimes the answer is "less".

Ask us anything
03 — Selected work

Ten rooms we'd move into tomorrow.

04 — How it runs

From first call to the last cushion.

Six stages, twenty-two weeks on a typical full-house project. You'll always know which one you're in.

Every stage ends with something you can hold: a drawing, a board, a cost sheet. Nothing is "trust us".

05 — Style finder

Three questions. One archetype.

Our designers use this in first meetings. Answer three questions about light, material and silhouette and we'll name the interior you keep describing badly — then build you a moodboard.

06 — The transformation

Drag the line. Watch eleven weeks happen.

Casa Almargem, a 1930s apartment in Campo de Ourique. Stripped back to the shell in March, handed over with the kettle on in June. Same walls, same windows, same square metres — a completely different building.

The case against the open-plan kitchen — from someone who designs them

We broke up 34 open plans last year and rebuilt eleven of them with walls. Here's the acoustic data, the smell problem nobody mentions, and the half-measure that usually wins.
